A Week in our Homeschool- Tuesday Edition

Today actually ended up being declared a "Teacher In Service" day by my hubs. He made sure that I got to sleep in also. How awesome is that? Even though there wasn't supposed to be school done, we still ended up fitting in a math test, bible study, and a hands on tech class at a local cell phone place ;) Heck, they even learned the art of negotiating...I'll add that to the list of REAL life they get to see everyday since we homeschool :)

We also enjoyed lunch and Starbucks with Daddy, so it was a great day overall :) Back to the books tomorrow!

Hello there.....

I didnt realize it has been 2 months since I have posted, but I guess it has been. There has been a lot going on here and blogging has crossed my mind a few times, but I just hadn't found the time to really sit down and write something. I really don't have a ton of time now either, but thought I would post an update of what we have been up to, as well as what will be coming ahead for us in the next couple of months :)

In November, We moved my grandmother in after she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The time from Diagnosis in October, to Surgery Mid November, was very quick. It was only a month and then she was here. She has been recovering great and learning a whole new lifestyle here in our home with so many things that I am sure are unfamiliar to her..mainly homeschooling (and 4 children in the home ALL DAY! LOL)...she is adjusting nicely and we are just NOW getting back into our regular routine. Which brings me to a couple of realizations..

  • We will be homeschooling year round this year due to needing to take off extra time for all of her appts etc. Its hard for me to fall off a schedule or a routine and get back on, so this has been a thought in my mind since I knew the Lord was calling me to move my grandmother in. My children are learning a lot more from LIFE right now, more than any book can teach, but the books have their place and we are looking forward to getting back into them :)

  • I am not a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants type of girl.Well, I already KNEW that, but I thought that I could TRY to be. Its just something I can never wrap my brain around and trying was as far as I got. Coming up with a daily plan and not knowing what is coming next is extremely hard for me. I will never be a person without some sort of routine going, but I think God has been working on me with this now and its forcing me to learn to be more flexible and appreciate a day that I DO have predictability.

  • We needed a change in some of our curriculum. Some was related to the change in our household, but most of it was just that Mid-year realization that what we are using just isn't working. I also have figured out some things about my children that are very helpful, including my new kindergartners learning style, and what life is like with 4 children...3 of whom are under age 5.

After Thanksgiving, we took an extended Christmas break and just enjoyed the season and adjusting to having another person here.  And before I forget.....

Baby A turned 1 years old Mid December!

Look forward to blogging again and sharing our journey with you all....

Ever felt the need to change things up?

I have been feeling led lately to change some things up here in our home school (and home in general since they are one in the same) and started praying about where the Lord was having me implement those changes.

A couple of things were pretty simple, but other things were going to require flexibility, which unfortunately, is something I am really not known too well for. I tend to like to keep things pretty traditional in our house in regards to schedules, etc and this nudging I was feeling just opened my eyes to how I have the freedom to change things around to work for our family, rather than what others consider "ideal". I am now entering into the "large" family zone (having 4 children) soon, I need to start thinking on that scale rather than a traditional family. I needed to realize that I will soon have 3 children under the age of 4 that are outnumbering their older sibling! LOL (The one 10 yr old). They have certain needs...the need to run and play in the morning, take naps after tiring themselves out (hehe) and not to mention the constant learning that they are soaking up with just everyday experiences and life with my guidance, training and discipline. The 10 yr old, on the other hand, needs to be discipled, given time alone to work on school without the interruption of little ones, and free time to pursue some of his interests and his own relationship with the Lord. He also needs time to run and play as well though, not too old for that just yet ;)

Now, all that is left is figuring out MY priorities and where they lay. I have a hard time with this sometimes, but have been gently reminded of them as I have been praying and getting great advice from people who seem to know me, or my type. These things may seem very simple for those who have been walking with the Lord for a while, or maybe not, but for me I KNEW this is the way I should place my priorites, but never really sought to implement it when planning out our days for the most part (except knowing that I needed to speak to the Lord daily..that is something I have realized from day one). Now figuring out what and how I am to do things is going to take time...but I am seeking out ways now to do this.....our daily schedule seems to be the simplest thing I can physically do now, something I felt was needed because I can visually SEE how my priorities on our current schedule where not lining up with that.

**God

**Hubby

**Children

(I tend to think I fit in there somewhere with hubby since we are one and even though I am not talking about putting my own needs before my children, there are things that absolutely should be done so that I can be a better wife and mother...things like getting to bed on time, eating right, exercising etc....those things would never take the place of being a mother first, but should be added to my list as must do's because if I am taking care of myself I can better take care of my family...make sense?)

This is very foreign to some, and at one time was to me as well....but since becoming a servant of the Lord Jesus, I now see why He has things this way...His way is always better than my own. Growth in the Lord is what I am after personally.....seeing my children walk with HIM is my ultimate priority. I NEED to make sure what I am doing on a daily basis is fruitful, and not just getting by day to day. Of course, I have always had those same goals and sure I am progressing somewhat just from what I see in my children and their knowledge of the Lord, but what about my example of Christ to them? Am I being led by the spirit daily? Am I allowing my own emotions and wants get in the way? Probably.

Now I am NOT saying I am not going to be a schedule person anymore. NOPE. NOT gonna happen. I serve an orderly God and being of the spirit I CRAVE it. What I am saying is that that schedule is better planned by the spirit and I am getting out of the way, regardless of how I "feel". Haha! My hubby is also becoming quite the Type A guy (which is a realllllll change!) and loves order around the house...but thankfully has such a flexible type of personality...just pretty balanced, which is what I am trying to become also.

Why start a new schedule or anything new right before a new baby comes? Won't I just have to re-do it again? Yeah, maybe. Maybe not? Is it just a schedule change? I don't think so, I think its more of a "lifestyle change" , a heart change for me, His constant work on me in my role as a mother and wife and my growth or lack of growth in my relationship with him? Maybe this was the Lord's way of easing us into this larger family frame of mind? Maybe He just wants me to spend more time tying heart strings with the children I have here now physically, so that when the newest blessing comes along It will be an easier transition for all? Whatever reason, HIS will is always good and right and I am stepping into it with an open heart and mind.....trying to follow His lead as best as I can.

Anyways, just some ramblings of mine as I ponder over the new week ahead and how I envision it to be , but hopefully not through my own eyes.

What we've been up to.

These last few weeks have been really busy and posting just hasn't been a priority of mine lately. I do hope to start posting my weekly updates again next week though because we are just so impressed with the way school is going this year!

So lets see..the last few weeks:
We've taken a small break from LHTH to get some other fun things done and to give Mom a small break with several dr's appts and other things we had going on...but plenty of learning was happening, just naturally without any thing preplanned. Middle and Little A both enjoyed our first park day of the year with painting, we've been to the park several times to play while big brother does his soccer class for PE, and have read lots of books and sang songs in between. I received an AWESOME phonics program from a friend (Thanks DAISY!!) and am hoping to get to that in the next week or two with Middle A as well. We'll return to our "normal" schedule on Monday and LHTH so I hope to post lots of pics of that next week (If I can remember to get my camera out!! LOL)

And little A is just sweet as can be still and gonna be two soon...time flies just too fast!

Big A on the other hand:
We have been plugging along with HOD CTC, and I gotta say..this kid is so happy to be doing school! He hasn't complained at all about school and has requested to keep his books in his room so he "could just work on some things while you are sleeping in Mom".....yeah, he's loving this program THAT much! We finished Unit 4 today and will be starting a new unit on Monday (which makes my type- A personality very happy right now..cant stand being on Day 3 on a Monday??) along with finishing up his homeschool PE class this week. It has been a fun class but takes a whole day of school so we are still contemplating starting another session..we'll see.
Here he is on his first day of class:

And myself and the pregnancy:

I am 28 weeks today! I had another ultrasound on Wed due to measuring 3 weeks ahead...but come to find out I am just having a big baby this time O.o She is almost 3 lbs and we still have 12 weeks to go! I am feeling extremely tired (as I always am during this stretch of pregnancy) and am looking forward to that burst of energy I usually get mid-3rd trimester. So for now, I am just making sure to nap daily, drink lots of water and eat as healthy as possible. I havent had ANY cravings with this pregnancy yet (except just loving fruit of any kind..so maybe that IS a craving?) and am gaining weight faster than I would like..lol.
Here is a pic of our baby girl this past Wed (this was a good face shot, dont you agree?)

and one of my belly at 27 weeks....not a great one..but I am pretty huge and have MORE to go!! LOL

I have several things going on in my mind that I need to get down (of course for me that means LISTS!!) and hope to share them soon.....
Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

I'm here..

I have a lot to post but my desktop doesn't "recognize" my camera...and my firewall won't upload the software I need. Posts without pics are just boring..so I wait. My laptop's (what I usually plug my camera into) cord went out and I am patiently waiting for it to be shipped out . Maybe I can get the desktop to figure out what its doing soon.........sigh...............
